Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and materials.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface with the engine turned off.
2. Recharge Refrigerant
  • Tools Required: Manifold gauge set, refrigerant canister.
  • Connect the low side service port of the AC system to the manifold gauge set.
  • Check the refrigerant level; if low, follow these sub-steps:
    • Attach the refrigerant canister to the manifold gauge.
    • Open the valve slowly while the engine is running and AC is set to max cool.
    • Monitor the low side pressure, aiming for manufacturer-recommended levels (typically between 25-45 psi).
    • Stop adding refrigerant when the correct pressure is reached and disconnect the canister.
3. Replace AC Compressor (if faulty)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, AC compressor oil, new compressor.
  • Remove the serpentine belt by using a wrench to relieve tension on the tensioner pulley.
  • Disconnect electrical connectors and refrigerant lines from the old compressor.
  • Unbolt the old compressor from its mount and remove it from the engine bay.
  • Install the new compressor by reversing the removal steps, ensuring to add the correct amount of AC compressor oil.
  • Reconnect refrigerant lines and electrical connectors, and reinstall the serpentine belt.
4. Inspect and Replace Cabin Air Filter
  • Tools Required: None (usually hand tools).
  • Locate the cabin air filter access panel (usually under the glove compartment).
  • Remove the panel and take out the old filter.
  • Inspect the filter for dirt and blockages; replace with a new filter if necessary.
  • Reinstall the access panel.
5. Test the System
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the vehicle and turn the AC to maximum.
  • Monitor performance to ensure cold air is blowing from the vents.
