Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:

    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Screwdrivers
    • Pliers
    • Timing belt kit (belt, tensioner, idler pulley)
    • Engine oil (if needed for an oil change)
  • Remove the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

2. Disassemble Engine Components
  • Remove the engine cover by unscrewing the necessary bolts.
  • Detach any components obstructing access to the timing belt, such as the air intake duct and engine mount (if applicable).
  • Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner and sliding the belt off the pulleys.
3. Remove Timing Belt
  • Align the engine to Top Dead Center (TDC) and mark the position of the crankshaft and camshaft gears.
  • Remove the timing belt cover by unscrewing the bolts.
  • Loosen the timing belt tensioner and slide the old timing belt off the gears.
4. Install New Timing Belt
  • Place the new timing belt over the crankshaft and camshaft gears, ensuring the alignment marks are lined up properly.
  • Install the new tensioner and adjust it according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Rotate the engine by hand (2 revolutions) to ensure the timing marks remain aligned.
5. Reassemble Components
  • Reinstall the timing belt cover and secure it with bolts.
  • Reattach the engine components that were removed in Step 2.
  • Install the serpentine belt around the pulleys and adjust the tension.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
