Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather the necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface with the ignition off.
2. Access the Cabin Air Filter
  • Tools Required: Flathead screwdriver or a trim removal tool
  • Open the glove compartment and remove the contents.
  • Locate the damper arm on the right side of the glove compartment; gently detach it to allow the compartment to fully open.
  • Squeeze the sides of the glove compartment to release the stops and let it hang down.
3. Remove the Old Cabin Air Filter
  • Locate the cabin air filter access cover, which is typically at the back of the glove compartment area.
  • Use the flathead screwdriver to carefully pry open the access cover.
  • Pull out the old cabin air filter and inspect it for dirt and debris.
4. Install the New Cabin Air Filter
  • Parts Required: New cabin air filter (ensure compatibility with your Volvo XC90 model)
  • Insert the new filter in the same orientation as the old one (check for airflow direction arrows on the filter).
  • Replace the access cover by pressing it back into place until it clicks.
5. Reassemble the Glove Compartment
  • Reattach the damper arm to the glove compartment.
  • Squeeze the sides of the glove compartment and lift it back into position until it clicks.
  • Replace all contents in the glove compartment.
