Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, spark plug socket, torque wrench, ratchet, extension, dielectric grease, and spark plug gap gauge.
  • Ensure the engine is cool to avoid burns.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Remove Ignition Coils
  1. Locate the ignition coils on top of the engine.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from each ignition coil by pressing the release tab.
  3. Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using a socket wrench.
  4. Carefully pull out each ignition coil from the spark plug well.
3. Remove Spark Plugs
  1. Use a spark plug socket attached to an extension to reach the spark plugs in the cylinder head.
  2. Turn the spark plug counterclockwise to remove it. Carefully lift it out without damaging the threads.
  3. Inspect the removed spark plug for signs of wear or fouling.
4. Install New Spark Plugs
  1. Check the spark plug gap using a spark plug gap gauge; adjust as necessary to match manufacturer specifications (typically around 0.028-0.032 inches for many models).
  2. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the threads of the new spark plug to prevent seizing.
  3. Insert the new spark plug into the cylinder head and hand-tighten it clockwise.
  4. Use a torque wrench to tighten the spark plug to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 15-20 ft-lbs).
5. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  1. Place each ignition coil back into its respective spark plug well.
  2. Secure each coil with its bolts, tightening them to specification.
  3. Reconnect the electrical connectors to each ignition coil until you hear a click.
6. Final Checks
  1. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
  2. Start the engine and allow it to idle for a few minutes to ensure smooth operation.
