Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical issues during repair.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level. If low, top up with the manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid.
  • Inspect for any leaks around the reservoir and hoses. If leaks are found, replace damaged hoses.
3. Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, fluid catch basin
  • Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines from the pump, using a fluid catch basin to collect any spilled fluid.
  • Unbolt the pump from its mounting bracket and remove it from the vehicle.
  • Install the new power steering pump, tightening bolts to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
  • Reconnect the power steering lines and replace the drive belt.
4. Inspect and Replace Steering Rack (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, jack and jack stands, steering rack removal tool
  • Lift the vehicle and securely support it on jack stands.
  • Disconnect the steering column from the steering rack.
  • Remove the tie rod ends from the steering rack.
  • Unbolt the steering rack from its mounts and slide it out of the vehicle.
  • Install the new steering rack by reversing the removal steps. Ensure to align properly and tighten all bolts.
5. Final System Check
  • Reconnect the battery and start the engine.
  • Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to bleed the system of air.
  • Check for leaks around the pump and steering rack.
