Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Wear safety goggles and gloves.
2. Inspect Brake Fluid
  • Remove the master cylinder reservoir cap and check the fluid level.
  • If low, top off with the appropriate brake fluid (DOT 4 recommended for Volvo).
  • Inspect the fluid for contamination (dark or gritty appearance).
3. Bleed Brake Lines
  • Start with the brake farthest from the master cylinder (usually the rear passenger side).
  • Connect a brake bleeder kit or use a clear hose attached to the bleeder valve.
  • Open the bleeder valve and have an assistant slowly press the brake pedal.
  • Close the valve before releasing the pedal to prevent air from entering.
  • Repeat until no air bubbles are visible in the fluid.
  • Move to the next brake in the order: rear driver side, front passenger side, front driver side.
4. Check Master Cylinder
  • Inspect the master cylinder for leaks; if fluid is leaking, it may require replacement.
  • If the master cylinder is faulty, remove it by disconnecting brake lines and unbolting it from the brake booster.
  • Install the new master cylinder and reattach the brake lines, ensuring they are properly torqued.
5. Inspect Brake Booster
  • Check the brake booster for any signs of damage or vacuum leaks.
  • If a leak is suspected, replace the brake booster by disconnecting it from the master cylinder and unbolting it from the firewall.
  • Install the new brake booster and reconnect everything.
