Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the ignition is off.
  • Wear safety gloves and goggles.
2. Check and Refill Brake Fluid
  • Tools Required: Brake fluid, funnel
  • Open the hood and locate the brake fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and inspect the fluid level; if low, top off with the appropriate brake fluid (DOT 4 for Volvo).
  • Replace the cap securely.
3. Inspect and Repair Brake Lines
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, brake line repair kit (if needed)
  • Visually inspect all brake lines for corrosion, cracks, or leaks.
  • If leaks are found, replace the affected brake lines using the brake line repair kit or by replacing sections of the line.
4. Bleed Brake System
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit, catch container
  • Start with the brake furthest from the master cylinder (usually the rear passenger side).
  • Attach the bleeder kit to the bleeder valve on the caliper.
  • Open the valve and have an assistant pump the brake pedal until no more air bubbles appear in the fluid; repeat for each wheel in the correct order (passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front, driver front).
  • Ensure the brake fluid reservoir does not run dry during this process.
5. Inspect and Replace Master Cylinder (if required)
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, screwdriver, new master cylinder (if necessary)
  • Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder.
  • Remove the mounting bolts and take out the old master cylinder.
  • Install the new master cylinder, ensuring it is mounted securely.
  • Reconnect the brake lines and bleed the brake system again to remove any air.
