Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues during the repair.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a hydraulic jack to lift the rear of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
3. Remove the Driveshaft
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, penetrating oil
  • Locate and remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the rear differential and transmission.
  • If the bolts are rusted, apply penetrating oil and allow it to sit for a few minutes before attempting removal.
  • Carefully slide the driveshaft out of the transmission or differential.
4. Replace the U-Joints
  • Tools Required: U-joint puller or press, hammer, snap ring pliers
  • Remove the retaining clips (if applicable) from the U-joint caps.
  • Use a U-joint puller or press to remove the old U-joint from the driveshaft.
  • Clean the U-joint yokes and ensure there is no debris.
  • Install the new U-joint by inserting it into the yoke and securing it with retaining clips. Ensure proper alignment.
5. Reinstall the Driveshaft
  • Carefully slide the driveshaft back into the transmission or differential.
  • Reattach and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 15-30 lb-ft).
  • Check and ensure the driveshaft is aligned properly.
6. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Reconnect the battery.
