Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a hydraulic jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which shocks need replacement.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Using a lug wrench, remove the lug nuts from the wheel.
  • Take off the wheel to access the shock absorber.
4. Remove the Old Shock Absorber
  • Locate the upper and lower mounting bolts of the shock.
  • Use a socket set to remove the bolts, starting with the lower bolt first.
  • Carefully detach the shock from the mounting points and remove it from the vehicle.
5. Install the New Shock Absorber
  • Position the new shock absorber in place.
  • Secure the lower mounting bolt first and tighten to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 30-50 ft-lbs, but verify with the service manual).
  • Attach the upper mounting bolt and tighten accordingly.
6. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle to the ground and use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically 80-100 ft-lbs).
7. Final Check
  • Inspect all connections to ensure everything is secure.
  • Dispose of the old shocks properly.
