Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the job.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical issues.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels using a socket set.
3. Remove Components
  • Remove the brake caliper:
    • Use a socket to unbolt the caliper and secure it with a bungee cord or wire to avoid strain on the brake line.
  • Remove the rotor (if necessary):
    • If the rotor is in the way, unbolt it using the appropriate socket.
  • Disconnect the sway bar link:
    • Use a wrench to remove the nut securing the sway bar link to the control arm.
4. Replace the Ball Joint
  • Remove the control arm:
    • Unbolt the control arm from the chassis and lower it away from the vehicle.
  • Remove the old ball joint:
    • Use a ball joint press or a hammer to remove the worn ball joint from the control arm.
  • Install the new ball joint:
    • Press the new ball joint into the control arm using the ball joint press, ensuring it is seated properly.
5. Reassemble the Components
  • Reinstall the control arm:
    • Bolt the control arm back to the chassis, using the manufacturer's torque specifications.
  • Reconnect the sway bar link:
    • Reinstall the sway bar link to the control arm and tighten the nut to specification.
  • Reinstall the rotor (if removed):
    • Bolt the rotor back in place.
  • Reinstall the brake caliper:
    • Secure the brake caliper back onto the rotor and tighten it properly.
6. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Reinstall the front wheels and tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
