Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts: socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, extension, ratchet, feeler gauge, dielectric grease, new spark plugs, and anti-seize compound.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
  • Allow the engine to cool if it has been running.
2. Remove Engine Covers
  • Using a socket set, remove any engine covers that obstruct access to the spark plugs. This may require removing screws or clips.
  • Set covers aside in a safe location.
3. Access and Remove Spark Plugs
  • Identify the spark plug locations (usually under the ignition coils).
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition coils.
  • Remove the ignition coils by unscrewing them with a socket wrench.
  • Once the coils are removed, use a spark plug socket and ratchet to unscrew the old spark plugs from the cylinder head.
4. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plugs (if recommended by the manufacturer).
  • Check and adjust the spark plug gap using a feeler gauge to ensure it meets specifications.
  • Carefully thread the new spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten them with a torque wrench to the manufacturer’s specified torque setting (usually around 13-20 lb-ft).
  • Reinstall the ignition coils and secure them with their screws.
5. Reconnect Electrical Connectors and Engine Covers
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors to the ignition coils.
  • Reinstall any engine covers that were removed, securing them with screws or clips.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
