Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, pry bar, jack stands, wheel chocks
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind the rear tires.
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure stability.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Using a socket set, remove the lug nuts from the front wheel.
  • Take off the wheel and set it aside.
4. Remove the Axle Nut
  • Tools Required: Large socket (typically 32mm or 36mm) for the axle nut.
  • Remove the axle nut by loosening it with a breaker bar.
  • If necessary, use penetrating oil to ease removal.
5. Disconnect the CV Joint
  • Use a pry bar to gently pop the CV joint from the hub assembly.
  • If applicable, disconnect any retaining clips or bolts holding the CV joint in place.
6. Remove the Old CV Joint
  • Slide the CV axle out of the transmission. Be cautious of fluid leakage.
  • Inspect the old CV joint for damage before disposal.
7. Install the New CV Joint
  • Apply grease to the new CV joint as per manufacturer specifications.
  • Insert the new CV axle into the transmission and push until it seats properly.
  • Connect the CV joint to the hub assembly and secure it with the axle nut. Torque to manufacturer specifications (typically between 150-200 ft-lbs).
8. Reassemble the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and tighten lug nuts to the specified torque.
9. Final Checks
  • Recheck the axle nut for proper torque.
  • Inspect for any visible signs of grease leakage or improper installation.
