Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, brake cleaner, C-clamp, torque wrench, and safety goggles.
  • Raise the vehicle using the jack and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel using the lug wrench.
2. Remove Brake Caliper
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Locate the caliper mounting bolts on the back of the caliper assembly.
    2. Use the socket set to remove the caliper bolts (usually 12mm or 14mm).
    3. Gently slide the caliper off the rotor and support it using a bungee cord or rope (do not let it hang on the brake line).
3. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Slide the old brake pads out from the caliper bracket.
    2. If equipped, remove any retaining clips that hold the pads in place.
4. Compress the Brake Caliper Piston
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Use a C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing. Place one side of the C-clamp against the rear of the caliper and the other against the old brake pad.
    2. Ensure the brake fluid reservoir cap is loosened during this step to avoid fluid overflow.
5. Install New Brake Pads
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Place the new brake pads into the caliper bracket. Ensure they are positioned correctly, with the friction material facing the rotor.
    2. Reinstall any retaining clips if applicable.
6. Reinstall Brake Caliper
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Slide the caliper back over the newly installed brake pads.
    2. Reinsert and tighten the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically around 25-35 ft-lbs).
7. Reassemble Wheel and Lower Vehicle
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Reattach the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
    2. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and remove them.
    3. Tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually 100-110 ft-lbs).
