Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, C-clamp or brake caliper tool.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels slightly, but do not remove them yet.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheels.
3. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Locate the two bolts securing the brake caliper to the caliper bracket.
  • Use the socket set to remove these bolts and carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor.
  • Support the caliper using a bungee cord or similar tool to avoid stress on the brake line.
4. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Pull the old brake pads away from the caliper bracket.
  • If applicable, remove any clips or shims that may be securing the pads.
5. Compress the Caliper Piston
  • Use a C-clamp or brake caliper tool to gently compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing to make room for the new pads.
  • Ensure the brake fluid reservoir cap is loosened to prevent pressure buildup.
6. Install New Brake Pads
  • Place the new brake pads into the caliper bracket, ensuring they are aligned correctly.
  • If applicable, install new clips or shims.
7. Reinstall the Brake Caliper
  • Slide the caliper back over the new pads and rotor.
  • Reinstall and tighten the caliper bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically 20-25 Nm).
8. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Place the wheels back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and remove the jack.
  • Tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically 100-120 Nm).
9. Final Checks
  • Pump the brake pedal a few times to ensure the pads seat properly and the brake fluid is distributed.
  • Inspect for any leaks around the caliper.
