Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical issues.

Tools Required:

  • Jack and jack stands
  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint separator tool
  • Hammer
  • Grease gun
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheel.
4. Detach the Suspension Components
  • Remove the bolt securing the brake caliper and hang it out of the way using a wire.
  • Remove the tie rod end nut and use a ball joint separator to detach the tie rod from the steering knuckle.
  • Remove the nut securing the ball joint to the control arm.
5. Remove the Ball Joint
  • Use a ball joint separator tool to detach the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
  • If necessary, gently tap the knuckle area with a hammer to release the ball joint without damaging surrounding components.
6. Install the New Ball Joint
  • Position the new ball joint into the control arm.
  • Tighten the securing nut to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 50-60 ft-lbs, but check specifications).
  • Reattach the steering knuckle, securing the ball joint properly.
7. Reassemble Suspension Components
  • Reconnect the tie rod end and torque to specification.
  • Reinstall the brake caliper and ensure all bolts are tightened to specification.
8. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle to the ground and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 100-110 ft-lbs).
9. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Test the suspension and steering feel before driving.
