Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: OBD-II scanner, mechanical oil pressure gauge, socket set, torque wrench, oil filter wrench, and an oil catch pan.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool. Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Check and Top Off Engine Oil
  • Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean. Reinsert it fully and pull it out to check the oil level.
  • If low, add the appropriate type of engine oil as specified in the owner's manual until the level is correct.
3. Replace Oil Filter (if necessary)
  • Place an oil catch pan under the oil filter.
  • Use the oil filter wrench to unscrew the oil filter. Ensure the rubber O-ring comes off with it.
  • Apply a thin layer of new oil to the O-ring of the new oil filter, then install it hand-tight.
4. Test Oil Pressure
  • Locate the oil pressure sending unit and disconnect the electrical connector.
  • Remove the sending unit using the appropriate socket.
  • Install the mechanical oil pressure gauge in place of the sending unit.
  • Start the engine and observe the gauge reading. It should be within the manufacturer’s specified range.
5. Address Issues Found
  • If oil pressure is low, check for potential causes:
    • Replace the oil pump if it is faulty.
    • Inspect for oil leaks and repair any found.
    • If the oil is dirty or degraded, perform an oil change.
6. Reassemble and Reconnect
  • Once repairs are complete, remove the mechanical gauge and reinstall the oil pressure sending unit.
  • Reconnect the electrical connector and ensure it is secure.
  • Reconnect the battery.
