Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials:
    • Tools: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and safety glasses.
    • Materials: New brake pads and/or rotors (if necessary).
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear (depending on which brakes are affected) of the vehicle.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands for safety.
3. Remove Wheels
  • Using the lug wrench, remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the brake components.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Components
  • Brake Pads:
    • Check the thickness of the brake pads. Replace if worn down.
    • Use brake cleaner to clean the caliper and surrounding areas.
  • Brake Rotors:
    • Measure the thickness of the rotors with a micrometer. Replace if below specification or if warped.
    • If replacing, remove the caliper (using socket set) and then remove the rotor.
    • Install new rotor, ensuring it is properly seated.
5. Reassemble
  • Reattach the caliper over the new pads and rotors, ensuring bolts are torqued to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts, ensuring to torque them to the specified value.
6. Lower Vehicle
  • Carefully remove jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
7. Test Brakes
  • Before driving, pump the brake pedal a few times to seat the pads against the rotor.
