Solution

1. Preparation

• Gather necessary tools and parts.
• Disconnect the battery negative terminal to ensure safety.
• Allow the exhaust system to cool before working on it.

2. Inspect and Replace Oxygen Sensors

• Tools Required: O2 sensor socket, ratchet, torque wrench, penetrating oil (if needed).
• Remove the upstream (pre-catalytic converter) oxygen sensor:
  1. Apply penetrating oil to the O2 sensor threads if stuck.
  2. Use the O2 sensor socket to unscrew and remove the sensor.
  3. Install the new O2 sensor and torque it to the manufacturer's specification (usually around 30 ft-lbs).
• Repeat for the downstream (post-catalytic converter) O2 sensor if needed.

3. Inspect and Replace the Catalytic Converter (if necessary)

• Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, exhaust hanger tool, penetrating oil.
