Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Safety Warnings: Always wear safety goggles and gloves. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
  2. Loosen the lug nuts on the front or rear wheels (depending on where the grinding occurs).
  3. Use the jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  4. Remove the wheel.
3. Remove Brake Components
  1. Remove the caliper bolts using the socket set.
  2. Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor and secure it with a bungee cord to avoid stress on the brake line.
  3. Remove the brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  4. If necessary, detach the caliper bracket by removing its bolts.
4. Inspect and Replace Components
  1. Examine the brake pads for wear; replace if they are below the minimum thickness (usually around 3mm).
  2. Inspect the brake rotor for grooves or warping. If damaged, replace the rotor.
  3. Clean the rotor surface with brake cleaner to remove debris and dust.
  4. If replacing the pads, apply brake lubricant to the backing of the new pads to prevent noise.
5. Reassemble Brake System
  1. Reinstall the caliper bracket (if removed) and torque to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  2. Insert new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
  3. Reattach the caliper over the new pads and secure it with the caliper bolts, torquing them to specifications.
  4. Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
6. Lower the Vehicle
  1. Carefully lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  2. Tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to ensure even pressure.
