Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical issues.
2. Inspect and Replace Worn Components
  • Inspect Tie Rods:

    • Remove the wheel to gain access to the tie rods.
    • Check for excessive play by moving the tie rod end back and forth.
    • If worn, remove the cotter pin and nut, and replace the tie rod end.
  • Check Ball Joints:

    • Lift the vehicle and support it on jack stands.
    • Use a pry bar to check for movement in the ball joints.
    • Replace any worn ball joints by removing the retaining nut and pressing out the joint.
3. Examine Steering Rack
  • Inspect the Steering Rack:
    • Check for leaks or damage on the steering rack.
    • If leaking, remove the steering rack from the vehicle by disconnecting the steering shaft and securing bolts.
    • Replace with a new steering rack if necessary.
4. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Open the power steering reservoir and fill it with the manufacturer-recommended fluid.
  • Bleed the power steering system by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock several times with the engine running.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Test the steering feel by taking the vehicle for a short test drive.
