Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical issues.
2. Inspect and Top Off Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level; add the appropriate type of power steering fluid if low.
  • Inspect the fluid for contamination or burnt odor; if contaminated, proceed to replace.
3. Replace Power Steering Fluid (if necessary)
  • Place a drain pan underneath the power steering rack.
  • Disconnect the return line from the power steering pump.
  • Allow old fluid to drain completely, then reconnect the return line.
  • Refill the power steering reservoir with new fluid.
4. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if faulty)
  • Remove any covers obstructing access to the power steering pump.
  • Disconnect the power steering pump from the drive belt.
  • Detach the power steering lines from the pump.
  • Remove the pump mounting bolts and take out the pump.
  • Install the new pump by following the removal steps in reverse order and torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
5. Check and Repair Steering Rack (if damaged)
  • Raise the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove the tires for easier access to the steering components.
  • Inspect the steering rack for any leaks or physical damage.
  • If necessary, replace the steering rack by disconnecting the tie rods and mounting bolts, then follow the reverse order for installation.
