Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, socket set, funnel, fluid containers for fluid changes, flashlight.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Allow the engine to cool if it has been running.
2. Inspect and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and use a dipstick or clean cloth to check fluid level.
  • If low, add the appropriate type of power steering fluid as specified in the owner’s manual.
3. Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, fluid container, new power steering pump.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Remove the serpentine belt from the power steering pump.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines from the pump using the appropriate sockets/wrenches.
  • Unbolt and remove the power steering pump from its mounting bracket.
  • Install the new pump by reversing the removal steps, ensuring all connections are tight.
  • Reconnect the battery and refill the power steering fluid.
4. Inspect and Replace Serpentine Belt (if necessary)
  • Check the condition of the serpentine belt for signs of wear or damage.
  • If worn, remove the belt by releasing tension with a wrench on the tensioner pulley.
  • Install the new serpentine belt by routing it according to the diagram usually found near the engine bay.
  • Ensure proper tension is applied to the belt.
5. Change Differential Fluid (if applicable)
  • If noise is related to the differential, locate the drain plug and remove it to drain old fluid into a container.
  • Replace with the manufacturer's recommended differential fluid using a funnel.
  • Reinstall the drain plug and ensure it is securely tightened.
