Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather Tools: OBD-II scanner, brake fluid, vacuum gauge, socket set, and safety goggles.
  • Safety Warning: Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off before starting work.
2. Inspect and Refill Brake Fluid
  • Locate the Brake Fluid Reservoir: Open the hood and find the brake fluid reservoir.
  • Check Fluid Level: If the level is low, top up with the appropriate brake fluid (DOT 4 for most Volvo models).
  • Check for Leaks: If low, inspect brake lines and connections for leaks.
3. Replace Brake Booster (if necessary)
  • Disconnect Vacuum Line: Remove the vacuum line from the brake booster.
  • Unbolt Brake Booster: Remove the mounting bolts securing the brake booster to the firewall.
  • Remove Brake Booster: Carefully take the booster out of the engine bay.
  • Install New Brake Booster: Place the new booster into position and secure it with bolts. Reconnect the vacuum line.
4. Bleed Brake System
  • Locate Brake Bleed Valves: Find the bleed valves on each brake caliper.
  • Bleed Brakes: Starting from the furthest brake caliper from the master cylinder, open the bleed valve while an assistant presses the brake pedal. Close the valve before the pedal is released. Repeat for all brakes until fluid is free of air bubbles.
5. Test the Brake System
  • Check for Proper Function: After repairs, test the brake pedal for firmness and responsiveness.
  • Take a Test Drive: Ensure that the vehicle stops properly and the brake warning light is off.
