Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Inspect and Replace Transmission Fluid
  • Remove the transmission dipstick and check the fluid level.
  • If fluid is low, add the appropriate type of transmission fluid specified in the owner's manual.
  • If the fluid is burnt or discolored, drain the old fluid by removing the drain plug.
  • Replace it with new transmission fluid, ensuring to use the correct type.
3. Remove Torque Converter
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, transmission jack
  • Support the transmission with a jack.
  • Remove the transmission pan and filter to access the torque converter.
  • Unbolt the torque converter from the flex plate.
  • Carefully slide the torque converter forward and remove it from the input shaft.
4. Install New Torque Converter
  • Align the new torque converter with the input shaft and push it into place until it seats properly.
  • Reattach the torque converter to the flex plate using the specified torque values.
  • Reinstall the transmission pan and filter.
  • Refill the transmission fluid to the appropriate level.
5. Reconnect Battery and Test Drive
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the engine and let it warm up, checking for leaks around the transmission.
  • Test drive the vehicle to ensure smooth shifting and proper operation of the torque converter.
