Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts:
    • Tools: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, micrometer, OBD-II scanner.
    • Parts: New brake rotors, brake pads, brake caliper grease, brake fluid (if necessary).
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
2. Raise and Secure Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which axle requires service.
  • Secure the vehicle on jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel using a lug wrench.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors
  • Inspect Rotors:

    • Visually inspect for warping, cracks, or corrosion.
    • Use a micrometer to measure the rotor thickness; replace if below manufacturer specifications.
  • Remove Caliper:

    • Unbolt the brake caliper and carefully hang it without stressing the brake line.
  • Remove Rotor:

    • Remove the rotor by unbolting any retaining screws and sliding it off the hub.
  • Install New Rotor:

    • Clean the hub surface and new rotor with brake cleaner to remove any protective coating.
    • Install the new rotor and torque it to the manufacturer’s specifications.
4. Replace Brake Pads
  • Remove Old Pads:

    • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
    • Inspect the caliper for any signs of damage or wear.
  • Install New Pads:

    • Apply brake caliper grease on the backing of the new pads.
    • Install the new brake pads in the caliper bracket.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the caliper over the new pads and torque the caliper bolts to the specified torque.
  • Reattach the wheel and lower the vehicle.
  • Repeat the process for the other side if necessary.
6. Brake Fluid Check
  • Check the brake fluid level and top off if necessary.
  • If the fluid is contaminated, consider performing a brake fluid flush.
