Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, tie rod end puller, grease gun, and safety gloves.
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands. Remove the front wheels using a lug wrench.
2. Remove Old Tie Rod Ends
  1. Locate the Tie Rod Ends: Identify the inner and outer tie rod ends connected to the steering rack and knuckle.
  2. Loosen the Lock Nut: Use a wrench to loosen the lock nut on the outer tie rod end.
  3. Remove the Outer Tie Rod End: Use a tie rod end puller to separate the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle. If necessary, tap the knuckle with a hammer to loosen it.
  4. Remove the Inner Tie Rod End: If replacing the inner tie rod, use a wrench to unscrew it from the steering rack.
3. Install New Tie Rod Ends
  1. Install the Inner Tie Rod End: Thread the new inner tie rod end into the steering rack and tighten to the manufacturer’s torque specifications (usually around 30-40 lb-ft).
  2. Install the Outer Tie Rod End: Connect the new outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle and torque the nut to specifications (typically 30-35 lb-ft).
  3. Tighten Lock Nut: Re-secure the lock nut on the outer tie rod end and tighten it.
4. Reassemble and Adjust
  1. Reinstall Wheels: Place the front wheels back on and tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to the specified torque (usually 80-100 lb-ft).
  2. Lower the Vehicle: Carefully lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  3. Alignment Check: Perform a wheel alignment check to ensure proper alignment settings.
