Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, fuel pressure gauge, socket set, screwdrivers, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the ignition is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shock.
2. Remove the Fuel Pump Access Cover
  • Locate and remove the rear seat cushion (if applicable) to access the fuel pump cover.
  • Unscrew and remove the access cover to expose the fuel pump assembly.
3. Disconnect Electrical Connections
  • Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the fuel pump.
  • Use a multimeter to verify power and ground at the connector. Ensure there is voltage when the ignition is turned to the "ON" position.
4. Remove Fuel Lines
  • Put on safety glasses and gloves to avoid fuel contact.
  • Use a fuel line disconnect tool to detach the fuel lines from the pump. Have a rag handy to catch any fuel spillage.
5. Remove the Fuel Pump Assembly
  • Unscrew the retaining ring or bolts securing the fuel pump assembly to the tank.
  • Carefully lift the assembly out of the tank, ensuring not to damage the float or other components.
6. Inspect and Replace the Fuel Pump
  • Inspect the old fuel pump for signs of wear or damage.
  • If replacement is needed, install the new fuel pump into the assembly, ensuring the orientation is correct.
  • Reassemble the fuel pump assembly and secure it with the retaining ring/bolts.
7. Reconnect Fuel Lines and Electrical Connections
  • Reattach the fuel lines to the pump assembly.
  • Plug the electrical connector back into the fuel pump.
8. Reinstall the Access Cover
  • Position the access cover back over the fuel pump assembly and secure it with screws.
  • Reinstall the rear seat cushion if removed.
9. Reconnect the Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition key to the "ON" position to prime the fuel system.
  • Start the engine and check for any leaks around the fuel lines and connections.
