Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, jack and jack stands, wheel chocks, pry bar, and safety goggles.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands. Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels to prevent movement.
  • Remove the front wheels using a socket set.
2. Remove Strut Assembly
  1. Disconnect Components:

    • Remove any components obstructing access to the strut assembly, such as sway bar links and brake line clips.
    • If applicable, detach the ABS sensor wire from the strut.
  2. Unbolt Strut from the Steering Knuckle:

    • Remove the bolts securing the strut to the steering knuckle using a socket set. Use a pry bar if necessary to separate the strut from the knuckle.
  3. Unbolt Strut from the Vehicle:

    • Locate and remove the upper strut mounting bolts in the engine bay using a socket set. Ensure you support the strut assembly as you remove the last bolt.
3. Replace Strut Cartridge
  1. Compress the Spring:

    • Secure the strut assembly in a bench vise. Use a strut spring compressor to compress the coil spring carefully, following the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Remove the Strut Top Mount:

    • Once the spring is compressed, remove the nut securing the top mount using a socket set. Carefully detach the spring and top mount from the strut cartridge.
  3. Install New Strut Cartridge:

    • Place the new strut cartridge into the top mount. Ensure that it is seated properly, then reinstall the top mount retaining nut and torque to specifications (typically around 25-30 Nm).
4. Reinstall Strut Assembly
  1. Install Strut into Vehicle:

    • Position the strut assembly back into its mounting location. Secure the upper strut bolts and torque them to specifications.
  2. Reattach to Steering Knuckle:

    • Attach the strut to the steering knuckle using the previously removed bolts and torque them to specifications (typically around 70 Nm).
  3. Reconnect Components:

    • Reinstall any components that were disconnected, including sway bar links and brake line clips. Ensure all connections are secure.
5. Final Checks
  • Re-install the front wheels and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 110 Nm).
