Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical issues.
2. Replace Brake Pads
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, brake caliper tool, torque wrench.
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Loosen the lug nuts and jack up the vehicle. Secure it with jack stands.
    2. Remove the wheel to access the brake caliper.
    3. Use the socket set to unbolt the caliper and gently slide it off the rotor.
    4. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
    5. Compress the caliper piston using the brake caliper tool to make room for new pads.
    6. Install new brake pads in the caliper bracket.
    7. Reinstall the caliper and torque the bolts to manufacturer specifications.
3. Replace Brake Rotors (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Same as above.
  • Sub-steps:
    1. If rotors are worn or damaged, remove the caliper and bracket as described above.
    2. Remove the retaining screws (if applicable) and slide off the rotor.
    3. Clean the hub surface on the axle to ensure a good fit for the new rotor.
    4. Install the new rotor, ensuring it sits flush against the hub.
    5. Reattach the caliper and bracket, and torque to specification.
4. Bleed the Brake System
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit or clear tubing, brake fluid.
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Fill the master cylinder reservoir with fresh brake fluid.
    2. Start with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually rear passenger).
    3. Attach the bleeder kit to the bleeder valve on the caliper.
    4. Have an assistant press the brake pedal while you open the bleeder valve to release air and fluid.
    5. Close the valve before the assistant releases the pedal. Repeat until fluid runs clear with no bubbles.
    6. Move to the next wheel and repeat the process until all four brakes are bled.
