Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Oil catch pan
    • Engine oil
    • UV dye (if using)
    • UV light (if using)
  • Ensure the engine is cool before starting work.
2. Clean the Engine
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Use engine degreaser to clean the engine surfaces where oil residue is present.
    2. Rinse with water and allow the engine to dry completely.
3. Replace Faulty Components

A. Oil Filter

  • Sub-steps:
    1. Remove the old oil filter using an oil filter wrench.
    2. Apply a thin layer of new oil on the gasket of the new filter.
    3. Install the new oil filter and tighten according to specifications (typically hand-tight plus 3/4 turn).

B. Valve Cover Gasket

  • Sub-steps:
    1. Remove any components obstructing access to the valve cover.
    2. Unbolt the valve cover and carefully lift it off.
    3. Scrape off the old gasket material from both the cover and the head.
    4. Place a new gasket onto the valve cover and re-install it, torquing the bolts to manufacturer specifications (usually around 10-12 Nm).

C. Crankshaft Seals

  • Sub-steps:
    1. Remove the necessary components to access the front and/or rear crankshaft seals.
    2. Use a seal puller to remove the old seals.
    3. Lubricate the new seals with engine oil and press them into place carefully.
4. Refill Engine Oil
  • After replacing components, refill the engine with the appropriate type and amount of engine oil as specified in the owner’s manual.
