Solution

1. Preparation

• Gather necessary tools: multimeter, socket set, wire brush, and basic hand tools.
• Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is off.
• Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical shock.

2. Clean Battery Terminals

• Remove the negative (-) terminal first, followed by the positive (+) terminal.
• Use a wire brush to clean any corrosion from the battery terminals and cable ends.
• Reconnect the terminals, ensuring they are tight and secure.

3. Replace the Battery (if necessary)

• If the battery voltage is below 12.4 volts, consider replacing it.
• Remove the old battery by unbolting the battery bracket and lifting it out carefully.
• Install the new battery by reversing the removal steps, ensuring to connect the positive (+) terminal first and then the negative (-) terminal.

4. Test the Alternator

• With the engine running, use the multimeter to check the alternator output.
• If the voltage is outside the specified range (13.7 to 14.7 volts), replace the alternator.
• To replace, disconnect the battery, remove the alternator's electrical connections, and unbolt it from its mounting points. Install the new alternator and reconnect all electrical connections.
