Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Place wheel chocks behind the rear tires for safety.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels using a socket set.
3. Remove the Old Tie Rod Ends
  • Locate the tie rod ends connected to the steering knuckle.
  • Use a wrench to loosen the nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  • Use a tie rod puller (or hammer) to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  • Unscrew the tie rod from the steering rack, noting the number of turns for installation reference.
4. Install New Tie Rod Ends
  • Apply a small amount of grease to the threads of the new tie rod end.
  • Screw the new tie rod end into the steering rack, using the same number of turns as noted previously.
  • Reattach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle and secure it with the nut, tightening to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 35-45 ft-lbs).
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reinstall the front wheels and tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and jack.
6. Alignment Check
  • Take the vehicle to a professional for a wheel alignment to ensure proper handling and tire wear.
