Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and materials.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Wear safety gear, including gloves and goggles.
2. Remove the Brake Fluid Reservoir Cap
  • Locate the brake fluid reservoir, typically situated near the back of the engine bay.
  • Carefully remove the cap, taking care not to allow contaminants to enter.
3. Replace Brake Fluid
  • If fluid is contaminated or moisture content is high, siphon out the old fluid using a turkey baster or brake fluid siphon.
  • Refill the reservoir with new brake fluid that meets Volkswagen specifications (usually DOT 4).
  • Ensure fluid is filled to the appropriate level between the minimum and maximum marks.
4. Bleed the Brake System
  • Start with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually the right rear).
  • Use a brake bleeder kit to open the bleeder valve on the brake caliper.
  • Have an assistant pump the brake pedal until fluid flows out without bubbles, then tighten the valve.
  • Repeat for the other wheels in the order: right rear, left rear, right front, left front.
  • Check fluid levels in the reservoir throughout the process and top off as necessary.
5. Final Checks
  • Replace the brake fluid reservoir cap securely.
  • Dispose of old brake fluid according to local regulations.
