Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, torque wrench, mechanic’s stethoscope, wheel bearing puller, grease.
  • Safely lift and secure the vehicle with jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is in park (or neutral for manual) and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts while the wheel is still on the ground.
  • Lift the vehicle and remove the lug nuts completely.
  • Take off the wheel and set aside.
3. Inspect and Remove Brake Components
  • Remove the brake caliper by unbolting the caliper bracket and hanging it with a bungee cord (do not let it dangle by the brake line).
  • Remove the brake rotor, if necessary, to gain access to the wheel bearing.
4. Remove Wheel Bearing
  • Remove the dust cover, if applicable, to expose the wheel bearing.
  • If the bearing is pressed into the hub, use a wheel bearing puller to extract it. Follow manufacturer specifications for any special tools or methods needed.
  • Clean the hub surface before installing a new bearing.
5. Install New Wheel Bearing
  • Press the new wheel bearing into place, ensuring it is seated correctly.
  • Reinstall the dust cover if applicable.
6. Reassemble Brake Components
  • Reinstall the brake rotor and caliper, ensuring all bolts are torqued to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reattach the wheel and tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to the specified torque.
7. Lower Vehicle and Test
  • Carefully lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
  • Conduct a road test to ensure the issue has been resolved and listen for any abnormal noises.
