Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: jack, jack stands, lug wrench, pry bar, and gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
2. Remove the Wheel
  1. Use the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels.
  2. Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Inspect Tie Rod Ends
  1. Locate the outer and inner tie rod ends connected to the steering knuckle and the steering rack.
  2. Visually inspect for any signs of wear, such as cracks or excessive grease leakage.
  3. Use the pry bar to gently move the tie rod end up and down to check for play. If there is excessive movement, the tie rod end is worn.
4. Replace Worn Tie Rod Ends (if necessary)
  1. If wear is detected, use a wrench to loosen the nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  2. Remove the old tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  3. Unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tie rod if replacing the entire assembly.
  4. Install the new tie rod end by threading it onto the inner tie rod, ensuring it is properly secured.
  5. Reattach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle and tighten the nut to the manufacturer's specified torque (consult vehicle specifications).
5. Reassemble
  1. Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  2. Lower the vehicle to the ground and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
  3. Recheck the alignment and perform a test drive to ensure proper steering response.
