Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels for safety.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which shocks need inspection/replacement.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands for safety.
3. Remove the Shock Absorber
  • Front Shock Removal:

    1. Remove the wheel to access the shock assembly.
    2. Unbolt the lower shock mount using a socket wrench.
    3. Support the lower control arm if necessary.
    4. Unbolt the upper shock mount located in the engine bay or under the rear seat, depending on the model.
    5. Carefully remove the shock absorber from the vehicle.
  • Rear Shock Removal:

    1. Remove the rear wheel.
    2. Unbolt the lower shock mount using a socket wrench.
    3. Unbolt the upper shock mount from the trunk area or under the vehicle.
    4. Remove the shock absorber from the vehicle.
4. Inspect and Replace
  • Inspect the removed shock for signs of wear or leakage.
  • If the shocks are leaking, install new shocks:
    1. Position the new shock absorber in place.
    2. Install and hand-tighten the upper shock mount bolts.
    3. Reattach the lower shock mount and torque to manufacturer specifications.
5. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts, tightening them in a crisscross pattern.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
  • Ensure that all bolts are secure and the vehicle is stable.
