Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the job.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves for protection.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a floor jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels using a socket set.
3. Remove the Old Ball Joints
  • For Press-Fit Ball Joints:
    • Remove the cotter pin and castle nut from the ball joint.
    • Use a ball joint separator tool to disconnect the ball joint from the control arm.
    • Press out the old ball joint using a ball joint press.
  • For Bolt-On Ball Joints:
    • Remove the retaining bolts and disconnect the ball joint from the control arm.
4. Install New Ball Joints
  • Clean the mounting area of the control arm.
  • Insert the new ball joint into the control arm and secure it with retaining bolts or press it in using a ball joint press.
  • Reattach the ball joint to the steering knuckle and secure with a new castle nut and cotter pin.
5. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheels and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually 80-100 ft-lbs).
  • Carefully lower the vehicle from the jack stands and remove the jack.
