Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the ignition is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a hydraulic jack to lift the rear of the vehicle.
  • Place jack stands under the vehicle to secure it.
3. Remove Driveshaft
  • Tools Required: Socket set, universal joint puller, torque wrench
  • Remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential and transmission.
  • Carefully slide the driveshaft out of the transmission and differential.
4. Inspect U-Joints
  • Visually inspect the U-joints for any signs of corrosion, wear, or damage.
  • Attempt to wiggle the U-joints to check for any play; they should move smoothly without excessive looseness.
5. Replace U-Joints (if necessary)
  • If any U-joint is found to be defective, proceed with replacement:
    • Tools Required: U-joint press, grease gun, clean rags
    • Use a U-joint press to remove the faulty U-joint from the driveshaft.
    • Install the new U-joint, ensuring proper orientation.
    • Grease the new U-joint using a grease gun until it is filled, then clean any excess grease.
6. Reinstall Driveshaft
  • Align the driveshaft with the transmission and differential.
  • Reinstall the mounting bolts and tighten them to the manufacturer's specified torque values.
7. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Reconnect the battery.
