Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Needed: Jack, jack stands, wheel chocks, socket set, torque wrench, grease gun.
  • Safely lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the emergency brake is engaged.
2. Remove Wheel
  1. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel using a socket.
  2. Remove the wheel completely to access the tie rod ends.
3. Inspect and Remove Tie Rod Ends
  1. Locate the tie rod end connected to the steering knuckle.
  2. Use a wrench to remove the nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  3. Use a tie rod end puller or hammer to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  4. Remove the nut securing the tie rod end to the steering rack and pull the tie rod end out.
4. Install New Tie Rod Ends
  1. Compare the old tie rod end with the new one to ensure proper fit.
  2. Apply grease to the new tie rod end if it has a grease fitting.
  3. Attach the new tie rod end to the steering rack and secure it with the nut, tightening to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
  4. Reattach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle and secure it with the nut, again tightening to specifications.
5. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  1. Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  2. Lower the vehicle back to the ground and tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
