Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Socket set
    • Wrench set
    • Torque wrench
    • Strut spring compressor
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands. Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel of the strut being replaced.
  • Remove the wheel to gain access to the strut assembly.
3. Remove Strut Assembly
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Disconnect the sway bar link from the strut using a wrench.
    2. Remove the lower strut mounting bolts using the socket set.
    3. Unbolt the top strut mount from the engine bay. This may require accessing the strut mount through the hood.
    4. Carefully pull the strut assembly out of the wheel well.
4. Replace Strut Cartridge
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Use a strut spring compressor to compress the spring on the old strut assembly.
    2. Remove the top nut on the strut mount to separate the strut from the spring.
    3. Install the spring onto the new strut, ensuring proper alignment.
    4. Reattach the top mount and secure it with the top nut, using the torque specifications provided by the manufacturer.
5. Reinstall Strut Assembly
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Insert the new strut assembly back into the wheel well.
    2. Bolt the top mount back into place.
    3. Attach the lower strut mounting bolts and torque them to the manufacturer's specifications.
    4. Reconnect the sway bar link to the strut.
6. Reinstall Wheel and Lower Vehicle
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and onto the ground.
  • Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
