Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, CV joint removal tool, grease, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely raised with jack stands before starting work.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Remove the CV Joint
  • Remove any retaining clips or bolts securing the CV joint to the axle.
  • If necessary, use a CV joint removal tool to detach the joint from the axle.
  • Carefully pull the CV joint off the axle, ensuring no damage to surrounding components.
4. Inspect and Replace Components
  • Inspect the CV joint for wear; if it’s damaged, replace it with a new unit.
  • Check the CV boot; if it’s torn, replace it as well.
  • Apply new grease to the CV joint before installation, ensuring it is packed well.
5. Reinstall the CV Joint
  • Slide the new or refurbished CV joint onto the axle, aligning it properly.
  • Secure the joint with retaining clips or bolts, tightening them to manufacturer specifications using a torque wrench.
6. Reattach the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and then fully tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to ensure even pressure.
