Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdriver set, coolant funnel, drain pan, hose clamp pliers, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Ensure the engine is cool to avoid burns.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
2. Drain Old Coolant
  1. Open the hood and locate the coolant reservoir.
  2. Place a drain pan underneath the radiator drain valve.
  3. Remove the radiator cap to allow air in.
  4. Open the drain valve on the bottom of the radiator and let the old coolant flow into the drain pan.
  5. Close the drain valve once all coolant has drained.
3. Flush the System
  1. Refill the radiator with distilled water using a funnel.
  2. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature, which opens the thermostat.
  3. Turn the heater to the maximum setting to circulate water through the heater core.
  4. Let the engine run for about 10-15 minutes, then turn it off.
  5. Allow the engine to cool, then drain the distilled water through the radiator drain valve.
4. Add New Coolant
  1. Once drained, close the radiator drain valve.
  2. Mix the new coolant with distilled water according to manufacturer specifications (typically a 50/50 mix).
  3. Pour the new coolant into the radiator using a funnel until it reaches the fill line in the reservoir.
  4. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, checking for leaks.
  5. Monitor the coolant level in the reservoir and add more if necessary after the engine has cooled.
