Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves.
2. Lift and Secure the Vehicle
  • Use a hydraulic jack to lift the rear of the vehicle.
  • Secure it on jack stands for safety.
3. Remove Driveshaft
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench
  • Remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential and the transmission.
  • Carefully pull the driveshaft from the U-joint while keeping track of the orientation for reinstallation.
4. Remove the Old U-Joint
  • Place the driveshaft in a vice for stability.
  • Using a U-joint removal tool or hammer, drive out the retaining clips from each end of the U-joint.
  • Tap out the old U-joint from the yoke using a socket that fits around the yoke's ears.
5. Install the New U-Joint
  • Apply a thin layer of grease to the new U-joint and yoke.
  • Align the new U-joint with the yoke and press it in using the vice or U-joint tool.
  • Install new retaining clips to secure the U-joint in place.
6. Reinstall Driveshaft
  • Align the driveshaft with the differential and transmission.
  • Reinstall the bolts and tighten them to the manufacturer’s specified torque (check service manual for exact values).
7. Lower the Vehicle
  • Carefully lower the vehicle back to the ground and remove wheel chocks.
