Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, and engage the parking brake.
  • Wear safety goggles and gloves.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which wheel bearing is suspected.
  • Secure the vehicle on jack stands for safety.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a lug wrench to remove the wheel nuts and take off the wheel.
  • Tools Required: Lug wrench, jack, jack stands.
4. Inspect and Replace the Wheel Bearing
  • Visual Inspection: Check the wheel hub for damage or excessive rust.
  • Remove the Brake Caliper: Unscrew the caliper mounting bolts, and safely hang it using a wire or bungee cord.
  • Remove the Brake Rotor: If applicable, take off the rotor to access the wheel bearing.
  • Remove the Wheel Hub Assembly: Unscrew the hub assembly bolts and remove it from the spindle.
  • Replace the Bearing: If the bearing is worn, press the old bearing out of the hub and press in a new bearing. Ensure it is properly seated.
  • Reassemble: Reverse the disassembly steps to reassemble the wheel hub, brake rotor, and caliper.
  • Torque all bolts to manufacturer specifications.
5. Reattach the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on, and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and torque the lug nuts to the specified value.
