Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, C-clamp or brake caliper tool, torque wrench, brake cleaner, anti-seize lubricant.
  • Safely park the vehicle on a level surface.
  • Engage the parking brake and place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle.
  • Securely place jack stands under the vehicle to ensure stability.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Using a lug wrench, remove the lug nuts from the wheel.
  • Take off the wheel and set it aside.
4. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Locate the caliper mounting bolts (usually two).
  • Use a socket set to remove the bolts.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor.
  • Support the caliper with a bungee cord or similar to avoid straining the brake line.
5. Remove the Old Brake Pads
  • Slide the old brake pads out of the caliper bracket.
  • Inspect the caliper pistons for damage and clean if necessary.
6. Compress the Caliper Piston
  • Use a C-clamp or brake caliper tool to compress the caliper piston back into the housing.
  • Ensure the brake fluid reservoir cap is loosened to allow fluid to return without pressure buildup.
7. Install New Brake Pads
  • Apply a thin layer of anti-seize lubricant to the back of the new brake pads.
  • Slide the new brake pads into the caliper bracket in the same position as the old pads.
8. Reinstall the Brake Caliper
  • Carefully position the caliper back over the new pads.
  • Reinsert and torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 25-35 Nm).
9. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on the hub.
  • Hand-tighten the lug nuts, then lower the vehicle.
  • Use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications (typically 100-120 Nm).
10. Final Checks
  • Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the new pads before driving.
  • Inspect the brake fluid level again and top off if necessary.
