Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure vehicle is on a level surface and securely lifted with jack stands.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety during repair.
2. Inspect Steering Column Components
  • Tools Required: Socket set, Torque wrench, Screwdrivers
  • Remove the lower steering column cover by unscrewing the screws securing it.
  • Inspect the u-joint and intermediate shaft for wear or looseness.
  • If damaged, replace the intermediate steering shaft.
3. Replace Worn Components
  • Tools Required: Socket set, Torque wrench
  • If the upper steering column bearing is worn, remove the upper steering column cover.
  • Disconnect electrical connectors and remove any retaining bolts holding the column in place.
  • Carefully pull the steering column from the vehicle to access the bearing.
  • Replace the upper bearing with a new one and reassemble in reverse order.
4. Lubrication
  • Tools Required: Grease, Lubricant spray
  • Apply a suitable lubricant to the u-joint and any pivot points in the steering column that show signs of wear.
  • Ensure excess grease is wiped away to avoid attracting dirt.
5. Reassemble and Reconnect
  • Reattach the steering column covers securely.
  • Reconnect the battery and ensure all electrical connections are properly fitted.
