Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack and jack stands, strut spring compressor, impact wrench (optional), pry bar, and safety glasses.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely supported with jack stands. Never work under a vehicle supported solely by a jack.
2. Remove the Wheel
  1. Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  2. Lift the vehicle with a jack and secure it on jack stands.
  3. Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Remove the Strut Assembly
  1. Locate and remove the bolts securing the strut to the wheel hub using a socket set.
  2. Remove the upper strut mounting nuts from the engine bay using a socket set. Access may require moving or removing components such as the air intake.
  3. Carefully pull the strut assembly out of the wheel well. You may need to use a pry bar to help disengage it from the hub if it's stuck.
4. Compress the Spring
  1. Place the strut assembly in a strut spring compressor.
  2. Compress the spring gradually until there is no tension.
  3. Remove the top nut securing the strut mount using a socket set and take off the strut mount and spring.
5. Install the New Strut
  1. Place the spring onto the new strut and position the strut mount on top.
  2. Secure the strut mount with the top nut and tighten it to the specified torque (check vehicle specifications).
  3. Slowly release the strut spring compressor to relieve tension on the spring.
6. Reinstall the Strut Assembly
  1. Position the new strut assembly back into the wheel well.
  2. Secure it to the wheel hub with the bolts and tighten them to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  3. Reinstall the upper strut mounting nuts in the engine bay and torque them to the specified values.
7. Reattach the Wheel
  1. Place the wheel back on the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  2. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and then torque the lug nuts to the specified values.
