Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, wheel chocks, socket set, torque wrench, screwdriver set, pry bar, torque specifications for shock mounts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the battery if working on electrical components nearby.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and support it with jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is secure before working underneath.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Using a socket set, remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the shock absorber.
4. Remove the Shock Absorber
  • Upper Mount: Locate the upper shock mount, typically found in the trunk or under the rear seat. Use a socket set to remove the mounting nuts.
  • Lower Mount: At the bottom of the shock absorber, remove the bolt securing it to the control arm or axle using the socket set.
  • Gently pull the shock out from its mounting position; you may need to use a pry bar to assist if it's stuck.
5. Install the New Shock Absorber
  • Position the new shock absorber in place, first inserting it into the lower mount.
  • Secure the lower mount bolt and tighten to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
  • Align the upper part of the shock absorber with the mount and install the nuts. Tighten according to specifications to ensure proper operation.
6. Reassemble
  • Reattach the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
  • Once the vehicle is back on the ground, fully tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to the specified torque.
7. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery if disconnected.
  • Check the shock absorber for proper installation and ensure there are no obstructions.
