Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdrivers, coolant pressure tester, catch pan.
  • Safety Warnings: Allow the engine to cool before working on the cooling system. Wear gloves and safety goggles.
2. Drain Coolant
  • Place a catch pan under the radiator.
  • Open the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator to allow coolant to drain completely.
  • Close the drain plug once all coolant has been drained.
3. Replace Damaged Components

A. Hoses

  • Remove any damaged or cracked hoses by loosening the clamps and sliding them off.
  • Install new hoses by sliding them over the fittings and securing with clamps, ensuring they are tight.

B. Radiator

  • Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  • Remove any mounting bolts holding the radiator in place.
  • Carefully lift the radiator out and replace it with a new unit.
  • Reconnect the hoses and secure all fittings.

C. Water Pump (if needed)

  • Remove the serpentine belt by releasing tension from the tensioner.
  • Disconnect the water pump from the engine by removing bolts.
  • Replace the gasket and install a new water pump.
  • Reattach the belt and ensure proper tension.
4. Refill Coolant
  • Mix the appropriate coolant with distilled water as per the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Pour the coolant mixture into the reservoir until the correct level is reached.
5. Bleed the Cooling System
  • Start the engine and let it run until it reaches operating temperature.
  • Turn the heater on to the maximum setting to help bleed air from the system.
  • Check for any leaks around the repaired areas.
