Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, screwdrivers, timing belt kit, engine support bar, jack and jack stands, OBD-II scanner.
  • Safely lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Remove any obstructions to gain access to the timing belt cover.
2. Remove Components
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Remove the engine cover by unscrewing the bolts and lifting it off.
    2. Remove the serpentine belt by using a wrench to relieve tension on the tensioner pulley.
    3. Remove the timing belt cover bolts and carefully detach the cover.
3. Set Engine to TDC
  • Rotate the crankshaft to set the engine at Top Dead Center (TDC) by aligning the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets.
  • Use a wrench on the crankshaft pulley to rotate it clockwise.
4. Remove Old Timing Belt
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Loosen the timing belt tensioner using a wrench and remove the tensioner.
    2. Carefully slide the old timing belt off the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets.
5. Install New Timing Belt
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Place the new timing belt around the crankshaft sprocket and align it with the camshaft sprocket.
    2. Reinstall the tensioner and adjust it according to specifications to maintain proper tension on the timing belt.
6. Reassemble Components
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Reattach the timing belt cover and secure it with bolts.
    2. Reinstall the serpentine belt by routing it correctly and applying tension.
    3. Reattach the engine cover.
7. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and listen for any unusual noises.
  • Allow the engine to reach operating temperature and check for leaks around the timing cover.
